We are proud to announce that we have achieved out first year of Planet Mark Business Certification for the reporting year 2023-4. We are committed to cutting our measured footprint annually.
We began measuring and offsetting our carbon emissions from some key areas in 2021/2. We initially has difficulty collecting data in some areas, so last year we focused on improving the accuracy of our data collection and recorded 41.53 tonnes of carbon emissions in the following key areas:
- Paper Use – 0.28 tonnes
- Business Travel – 29.67 tonnes
- Office Energy Use – 11.58 tonnes
We also decided to extend our offsetting to include emissions relating to staff commuting, based on the average UK commute and our employees working an average of three days a week in the office.
In 2022/3 we chose to offset our emissions through a Global Portfolio carbon reduction programme, which supports a range of projects including carbon avoidance and clean and renewable energy generation. Many are within developing countries, where they also provide additional social benefits.
We understand of course that offsetting should be the last step in the journey to net zero, and that opportunities for reducing carbon emissions must be thoroughly explored first.
