A new SEN secondary school linked to an existing primary.
Located on a former farmstead, the existing Lakeside Primary School serves pupils with special educational needs including ADHD, autism, speech, language & communication difficulties and social & emotional difficulties.
The new secondary school has been built to allow the pupils to continue their education in a familiar setting. The school includes a multi-use games area, therapy rooms and sensory spaces, with a glazed link providing direct access between the two schools.

Appointed from RIBA Stage 1 through to completion, Crookes Walker provided input through the planning process, scheme design / optioneering phases, tender and on-site monitoring duties, including BB101 overheating calculations and Part L compliance modelling. The project involved complex co-ordination works to make use of mechanical ventilation whilst minimising openings.
Crookes Walker have worked on a number of SEN schools and residential schemes with Witherslack Group, building up a robust set of design standards for these projects over the past three years.
Lakeside school meets a clear demand for SEN secondary schools in an area where 20% of the pupils have special educational needs, and will allow pupils from Lakeside Primary to continue to thrive in their secondary education.
